What is ViaPianta
Hi, I’m Cate — a potter drawn to nature, texture, and the quiet stories objects can hold.
Most of my work is functional pottery with a focus on plant pots and coffee cups. I’m inspired by the natural world and often incorporate earthy textures and tones along with organic details like mushrooms and moss. I enjoy playful, slightly whimsical pieces that blur the line between pottery and sculpture. I work primarily on the wheel, adding hand built elements to bring each piece to life, and I love letting small imperfections remain as part of the story.
I originally found pottery through my love of Hoya plants. After years of modifying terra cotta pots with polymer clay accents, I wanted to create something more durable and truly handmade from start to finish. That curiosity led me to ceramics which is a skill I continue to work on growing with my local pottery community. Pottery embraces a philosophy I value deeply: journey before destination. Clay teaches patience, experimentation, and acceptance, especially when things don’t go exactly as planned.
My work outside the studio involves managing complex projects where precision, data, and lots of cat herding matter —so clay is my creative counterbalance. It’s where I slow down, explore ideas inspired by nature, anime, pop culture, and sometimes requests from my kids, who love creating alongside me. At its core, my work is about growth, curiosity, and making pieces meant to be used, enjoyed, and lived with.
